ANDREJS OSOKINS. CLASSICAL CHRISTMAS
During the Christmas season, music becomes a bearer of light and comfort - it connects people, awakens memories, stirs reflection, and brings hope. Yet not every piece that embodies warmth, stillness, or joy turns into a Christmas symbol. Why do some melodies become an inseparable part of the holiday, while others, though equally moving, remain in the shadows?
Pianist Andrejs Osokins invites listeners to seek answers to this question in his new concert program, “Classical Christmas.” The program intertwines masterpieces of classical music that fit naturally into the mood of winter and the holidays, as well as familiar Christmas songs from Latvian and world heritage arranged for piano.
The concert will feature spiritual works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Franz Schubert’s “Ave Maria,” Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s dramatic and luminous fantasies, as well as Claude Debussy’s depictions of winter. Specially for this program, Andrejs Osokins has also included works by Latvian composers inspired by winter, along with music by George Gershwin that embodies the joy and carefree spirit of New Year celebrations.
The concert will be woven together by the pianist’s stories, which will help audiences look into the history of the pieces, feel their moods, and come closer to the inexplicable mystery that makes certain music into Christmas music.
