ANDREJS OSOKINS CLASSICAL CHRISTMAS
During Christmas time, music becomes a bearer of light and comfort - it connects people, awakens memories, inspires reflection, and brings hope. Yet not every piece that embodies warmth, quiet, or joy turns into a Christmas symbol. Why do some melodies become an inseparable part of the season, while others, though equally moving, remain in the shadows?
In his new concert program, “Classical Christmas,” pianist Andrejs Osokins invites audiences to seek answers to this question. The program weaves together masterpieces of classical music that belong naturally in the winter and festive mood, as well as recognizable Christmas songs from Latvian and world heritage, arranged for piano.
The concert will feature Johann Sebastian Bach’s sacred works, Franz Schubert’s “Ave Maria,” Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s dramatic and radiant fantasies, and Claude Debussy’s portrayals of winter. Especially for this program, Andrejs Osokins has also included works by Latvian composers evoking the winter spirit, as well as music by George Gershwin that embodies the joy and carefree feeling of New Year’s celebrations.
The concert will be interwoven with the pianist’s commentary, helping the audience look into the history of the pieces, feel their atmosphere, and come closer to that inexplicable mystery that makes certain music become Christmas music.
