Armenian Duduk | Engin Toprak (Turkey)

On November 26 at 7: 00 PM, the concert hall “Collegium Musicum Riga” will host a special solo concert of the Armenian duduk, inviting listeners on a musical journey with the Turkey-born musician Engin Toprak.

“The duduk is human; its language is understandable to everyone.” (Jivan Gasparyan)

The duduk is one of the oldest wind instruments in the world, and its distinctive, warm, deeply emotional sound has been an integral part of Armenian culture for centuries. It is often called “the soul of the apricot tree,” because the instrument is traditionally made from apricot wood.

The sound of the duduk can express what words sometimes cannot - longing, love, sorrow, hope, and comfort. It is music that speaks regardless of language, culture, or experience.

In this concert, Engin Toprak will invite listeners to discover the history of the duduk, its special sound, and its centuries-old musical traditions. The concert is conceived as an intimate, meditative musical experience in which ancient melodies intertwine with personal storytelling and reflection.

About the artist

Engin Toprak is a musician born in Turkey and living in Latvia who has devoted many years to the art of playing the duduk. He has refined his musical skills by studying with Armenian duduk masters, gaining a deeper understanding of the instrument’s traditions and expressive possibilities.

We invite you to an evening in which music becomes a conversation of the soul with eternity!
