Ballet "The Fountain of Bakhchisarai"
The ballet "The Fountain of Bakhchisarai" by Russian composer and leading 20th-century musicologist Boris Asafyev is a poetic story about the different "faces" of love - passion, jealousy, cruelty, and tenderness.
The Polish girl Maria awakens the heart of Crimean Khan Girey, and the hot-blooded Tatar captures Maria and takes her with him to the harem. There Maria experiences a psychological battle - the harem favorite Zarema, in a fit of jealousy, attacks and kills the Polish girl. Khan Girey eases his pain by gazing at the Fountain of Tears, whose murmuring water carries him back to the past, and feelings come alive again...
