Ballet “Hamlet. (Do Not) Tell Me Fairy Tales”

Inspired by the depth of the subtext in Shakespeare's tragedy “Hamlet,” Anton Freiman explores the relationship with death in his first full-length ballet, challenging generations, the past and the future to a dialogue. Meanwhile, the production's musical score is conceived as a conversation between the master Sergei Rachmaninoff and contemporary composer Linda Leimane.

Having loved the painterly paradoxes and touching absurdity of Imants Ziedonis's “Colorful Fairy Tale” since her school years, Elza Leimane is inspired, through this masterpiece, to look at the colorful history of ballet in her production “(Do Not) Tell Me Fairy Tales.” The music will be by Jānis Šipkēvics (Shipsea), Matīss Čudars and Kaspars Kurdeko.
