Ballet "By the Blue Danube"
Johann Strauss, the King of Waltzes, and his wonderful music have inspired a romantic ballet about the choice between love and the stage, dreams and reality. For the first time in Riga, By the Blue Danube was staged in 1957; over 60 years it has been revived several times and has become part of the golden fund of Latvian ballet.
The new production also pays tribute to another anniversary: in April 2017 we will mark 110 years since the birth of this ballet’s creator, the legendary ballerina, ballet master and teacher Helēna Tangijeva-Birzniece.
