Ballet A Midsummer Night's Dream

The ballet A Midsummer Night's Dream, inspired by William Shakespeare's comedy, was created for the Hamburg Ballet in 1977 by the legendary German choreographer of American origin John Neumeier, in collaboration with the exquisite stage and costume designer Jürgen Rose. The production combines humor with dreamlike poetry, creating a powerful psychological intensity that has secured this work a place in the repertoires of the world's leading ballet companies.

The ballet's musical dramaturgy allows the audience to enter three stylistically distinct worlds: Felix Mendelssohn's works characterize the aristocratic court of the ruler of Athens, György Ligeti's music leads into the mystical realm of elves and fairies, while the aesthetics of barrel-organ playing enliven the craftsmen's world.
