Big Band Sigulda and the Mõisaküla Big Band concert “Two Big Bands - One Christmas Story”

On November 29 at 4: 00 PM, at the Sigulda Devon cultural center, we invite you to experience the Christmas-season concert “Two Big Bands - One Christmas Story,” featuring the big band Sigulda and their friends from Estonia, the Mõisaküla Big Band.

The melodies of variety and light music have been heard in Sigulda since 1958, when such an orchestra was founded in the town by Jānis Meija. Over the years, the ensemble has gone through different periods - earned recognition in nationwide competitions, temporarily quieted its activity, changed its name, and developed its musical diversity under the leadership of several conductors. In the conductor's seat at various times have been Jānis Raslavs, Alnis Zaķis, Pēteris Goldbergs, and Vilnis Boitmanis.

Today, big band Sigulda brings together 18 musicians, whose instrumental sound is complemented by soloists Inese Greste, Daiga Krontāle, and Raimonds Eizenšmits. The ensemble's musical spark and sense of togetherness are helped along by conductor Arnis Šmitiņš.

The concert's special guests will be the Mõisaküla Big Band from the small Estonian town of Mõisaküla, located near the Latvian border. The town has only about 741 residents, but its musical life proves that great ideas and resonant traditions do not require a big city.

The Mõisaküla Big Band operates at the local community center and is the only jazz orchestra in the entire Mulgimaa region - and, as the musicians themselves might say with a smile, the best one too! This time, the Estonian musicians will bring to Sigulda not only their big band sound, but also four singers: Kristiina Kanep, Piret Veevo, Raul Horn, and Saskia Oja.

The meeting of the two big bands will be an opportunity to enjoy the meeting of different generations and musical experiences, where jazz energy, melodies, and singers' voices will unite listeners in a shared atmosphere of Christmas anticipation.
