Open Mic at the Valmiera Integrated Library

Have you ever read a book, poem, or some special text that made you stop, think, smile, or even feel that it expressed your own words and thoughts? Maybe there is a literary work you would like to introduce to others, or a text that means something special to you and that you would like to read aloud? The Book Club in Valmiera invites you to Open Mic, a literary gathering where words, stories, and people who want to share them take center stage. On November 5 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Valmiera Integrated Library.

Open Mic is a chance to step outside the usual reading experience, where we keep the words of books to ourselves, and experience how literature sounds in other people's voices. It is an evening when anyone can become both reader and listener, sharing texts that speak to us, inspire us, move us, or make us see the world differently.

For this gathering, we invite you to bring along a text of your choice - a poem, an excerpt from prose, a passage from a book chapter, a short story, or any other literary work you would like to pass on. It can be a text you have written yourself or a work by a favorite author. There is no need to choose something complicated or especially prepared. Sometimes just a few simple, sincere words can speak the loudest.

The essence of this evening is not a competition for the best reading or the most perfectly delivered performance. You do not need to be a professional actor, poet, or experienced public speaker. What matters most is the desire to share and to be present. Every reading is an opportunity to reveal a story, thought, or feeling, while each listener's presence gives this moment meaning.

An open mic evening is also a chance to discover literature from a different perspective. By listening to the texts chosen by others, we can discover authors we did not know before, find new books, see familiar works in a different light, and hear how differently people feel about and interpret the same words. It is a story about being together, listening attentively, and conversations that can continue even after the last line has been read.

We invite everyone who loves reading and literature, regardless of age, experience, or the text chosen. If you want to read, take the opportunity and let your text be heard. If you would rather listen, come and enjoy the stories chosen by others. Listening is also an important part of sharing.
