Journey to Marses

Eight journeys to Marses, eight artists and artist groups, eight stories of encounters - this is the exhibition "Journey to Marses. The Artist Enters a Park Meadow", which we will open on October 22 at 4:00 p.m. in the lobby on the 3rd floor of the main building of the Latvian National Museum of Art (1 Jaņa Rozentāla Square).

The exhibition was created in collaboration between the Latvian Fund for Nature and the artists Kristaps Kalns and Sarmīte Māliņa, and is dedicated to one of the rarest and most biologically diverse landscapes in Latvia, the park meadows.

In large-format photographs, the exhibition shows the encounters of eight Latvian artists and artist groups with this special park landscape in different seasons, as well as the artists' impressions and memories connected with this journey. Most of the photographs were taken in Marsi in Valka Municipality, one of the most remarkable and oldest park meadows in Latvia.

The park meadow was experienced by the artists Ieva Iltnere and Jānis Mitrēvics, the artist duo Skuja Braden, sculptor Aigars Bikše and artist Jana Briķe, poet Jānis Rokpelnis, composer Krists Auznieks and artist Krista Vindberga-Auzniece, artist Andris Eglītis, actor Vilis Daudziņš, and the group "Alejas".
