DANCE NATION

Klēra Barona

• •Directed by Paula Pļavniece

Coming-of-age drama

They are 11 to 13 years old. They are dancers in a dance troupe driven by ambition, friendship, and passion. They are preparing to conquer the world - or, more simply put, to win the regional competition and earn the chance to compete at the national level. Every movement, every step, every squat takes the girls further away from childhood and closer to discovering their identities. What is the price of victory? And what are they willing to sacrifice to become the best?

At the heart of this production is dance, through which the girls’ innermost dreams, goals, and fears will be revealed. Looking at what is happening from an adult perspective, the audience will have the opportunity to draw their own conclusions about what kind of world we are creating for the youngest generations and for ourselves.
