Diwali Wave
From darkness to light ...
Diwali - the Indian festival of light. Its main feature, which gave the festival its name, is the light of lamps and illumination as a symbol of the triumph of righteousness and high spirit over evil forces, the victory of light over darkness, of truth over lies. The very name Diwali is translated as “garland of lights”,
Diwali lights illuminate every corner of India. The festival is accompanied by joy, a sense of unity, and hope. Lighting spaces with lamps is an expression of respect to heaven. Indians believe that during Diwali, Lakshmi and Ganesha, the goddess of prosperity and the lord who removes obstacles, visit every home.
Diwali is filled with various legends, but the main theme of all the stories is the immortal truth of good's victory over evil, of the light of knowledge that drives away the darkness of ignorance. Diwali lamps illuminate not only homes, but also people's hearts. Rows of lamps lit at the same time by many people serve as a sign of unity in their intention to spread truth, joy, and beauty.
WILLA theater space will provide a warm and slightly informal atmosphere, where strangers will easily become friends.
Indian classical dance is the oldest historically documented form of dance art, first mentioned in the Rigveda in 1500 BC.
Originally it was performed by temple dancers, who played a role no less important than that of priests. The plots of the dance compositions are legends about gods and heroes, and the dance itself conveys ideas of wisdom and morality while remaining visually beautiful and aesthetically refined.
The concert is organized by the Bharata Indian Cultural Center (Riga). The Bharatanatyam program will feature Bharata studio soloists Padmini Sridevi, Lasyangi, Tatjana Goluba, Jeļena Gaļperina, Andrejs Krasiļņikovs, and other wonderful dancers. Guest of the concert - Indian dance style Odissi teacher and performer Aija Devi.
