DON QUIXOTE
At Lāčplēša iela 25, director Adolf Shapiro, the creator of the legendary Youth Theatre, once so important to Latvia, returns.
He comments on his intention to stage Miguel de Cervantes’ “Don Quixote” as follows: “Poetic imagination or everyday prose? Wonderful madness or down-to-earth reason? Rejection and mutual influence. The story of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza (Cervantes called it a story, not a novel) illuminates the theater of life and the life of theater. In this light, the modern world’s wavering between the noble intentions of loners (they are always naive) and coming to terms with reality, this bitter experience, becomes clearer. The production DON QUIXOTE can become a kind of test for both actors and director as to how much quixotism and how much Sancho-ism lives in each of us. And the audience will be able to test themselves too”.
Kaspars Znotiņš will play Don Quixote, and Gundars Āboliņš will portray Sancho Panza.
The performance takes place at Lāčplēša iela 25, in the Great Hall.
