Dzeltenie Pastnieki Vagonu Hall
Dzeltenie Pastnieki is one of the most influential and legendary Latvian alternative music groups, founded in 1981 in Riga.
The group is built around its longtime leader, idea creator, and recording director Ingus Baušķenieks, as well as guitarist and vocalist Viesturs Slava.
Pioneers of home recording - in the 1980s, when the official Soviet recording studio Melodija did not accept the group's music, the "Pastnieki" recorded their albums on their own at home using tape recorders (a DIY approach). The recordings were distributed on homemade cassettes and tapes.
Unique sound - the band's style is marked by an experimental minimalist synthesizer sound, electronic rhythms (using the first available drum machines), reggae/ ska rhythm elements, as well as a distinctive, ironic lyrical style close to absurdist poetry.
The group's music still retains cult status today - the 1980s albums were later reissued on CD and vinyl (including internationally, for example by the US label Dark Entries), and the band still performs from time to time.
One of the longest-lived and brightest examples of independent music. Both as a band whose songs were deemed vulgar, unartistic, and harmful, and as a band that never performed often, yet was highly popular and beloved underground.
Today, it is a band that brings together listeners of different generations and states of mind, in a very positive way. An unusual concert once again this year at Vagonu Hall.
