Jazz and Christmas

On December 11 at 7: 00 p.m., the concert program dedicated to the holidays, “Jazz and Christmas,” by musician Santa Šillere will be heard at the Salacgrīva Culture Center. This special fifth-anniversary concert will feature arrangements of works by Raimonds Pauls, Uldis Marhilevičs, and Imants Kalniņš, along with the most popular foreign holiday classics and the musicians’ original compositions.

The evening promises a musical journey between the familiar and the new - between melodies stored in our memories and sounds born in the freedom of improvisation. It is a conversation with time that makes you smile, think, and pause for a moment, giving in to the holiday spirit. Over five years, the program has become a beloved holiday tradition that invites listeners every winter to feel the most beautiful time of the year and rediscover Christmas music in a jazz interpretation.

The anniversary year is also marked by the first “Jazz and Christmas” album, in which the program’s most beautiful melodies have been recorded for the first time on vinyl.

The festive atmosphere will be created by musicians well known on the Latvian jazz scene - jazz singer Santa Šillere, saxophonist Toms Rudzinskis, guitarist Jānis Pastars, organist Atis Andersons, double bassist Jānis Rubiks, and drummer Pauls Ķierpe.

The repertoire will include the most beloved Christmas melodies of all time in fresh jazz arrangements, original compositions, as well as works by Latvian composers in a new and previously unheard sound. Listeners can look forward to a warm, emotional, and sparkling concert evening in which tradition meets improvisation, and the Christmas spirit meets jazz freedom.

During the event, filming and photography will take place. The materials obtained may be used for promotional purposes of the event.
