Cycling and Walking Series “Northern Trail” - Valmiera Municipality

After a break, the cycling and walking series “Northern Trail” returns, this year completing its 335-kilometer journey across Valmiera Municipality. From Mazsalaca to Valmiera, the remaining 99 kilometers will be covered in four stages, discovering along the way the farms of the “Code of the Northern Land”, their people, flavors, and stories.

The first stage on September 13 will take you from Mazsalaca to Burtnieki and will be covered by bicycle over 45 km.

The second stage on September 27 will take you from Burtnieki to Bērzaine and will be covered on foot over 18 km.

The third stage on October 3 from Bērzaine to Zilaiskalns will be covered on foot over 18 km.

Meanwhile, the final stage on October 25 from Zilaiskalns to Valmiera will be covered on foot over 18 km.

All routes will be linear. It is planned that at the start of each stage, participants will travel with their own vehicles to the stage’s end point, then return together by organized bus to the starting point of the route. This way, after completing the whole stage on foot or by bike, each participant’s vehicle will be waiting at the end point of the stage, and getting home will not cause any unnecessary worries. Are you ready to experience, feel, and taste? Registration for all stages is already open, and the nearest one is already on September 13, when we will travel by bicycle. It will be a ride of moderate difficulty and will take us along paths and larger roads, with some sections on asphalt as well. To make the ride a positive and rewarding experience, we encourage you to assess your physical fitness beforehand. The bike ride will include no shortage of stops and stories, which will be provided by the hike leader, nature walker, and canoeing enthusiast Toms Treimanis. Along the way, we will meet the local “Code of the Northern Land” host Indra from the production site “Cietais rieksts”, see the villages of Vecate and Matīši, Lake Burtnieks, and, of course, there will be a delicious soup at the end. Participants are asked to arrive at the starting point in Mazsalaca with their own vehicles. Each registered participant will receive a technical description of the hike so they can prepare for it and be informed about the event procedure.

The number of participants in the bike ride is limited, so we invite you to register in advance by calling 26332213, writing to *protected email* or by visiting the Valmiera Tourist Information Center in person (Bruņinieku iela 1, Valmiera). The participation fee for the hike is 10 EUR. Please note that photographs and video may be taken during the event. Photos and videos may be used to document the hiking and cycling series and to promote Valmiera Municipality.
