Exhibition "Castles of Livonia"
The exhibition "Castles of Livonia" tells the story of the Livonian period (13th to 16th centuries) and the castles built during that time, revealing one of the most important layers of Latvia's medieval cultural and historical heritage. The exhibition offers visitors a chance to explore castles as a многolayered world, both as military structures and centers of power, and as living and dynamic spaces of medieval society.
The exhibition is installed in an authentic setting, in the vaulted cellars built in the 14th century of Riga Castle, with impressive architecture. The technically new exhibition is designed as a contemporary interior installation that separates historical heritage from the present day: the masonry walls and vaults have been left untouched, displaying the historic interior, while the floor made of polymer concrete is raised like a levitating walkway, guiding visitors through the different themes of the story of the Livonian castles.
The museum is closed on official holidays: January 1, Good Friday, Easter, May 1, May 4 (except the Museum of the Popular Front), June 23 and 24, November 18 (except the museum in Riga Castle), and December 24, 25, 26, and 31.
Admission to the museum premises and ticket sales end 30 (thirty) minutes before the museum closes.
