Exhibition | James McNeill Whistler
James McNeill Whistler was one of the boldest innovators of the 19th century, a contemporary of the Impressionists admired by Van Gogh and Manet. Witty and provocative, he challenged Victorian conventions, preaching art for art's sake. Whistler saw a kinship between painting and music, so he titled many works arrangements, harmonies, and nocturnes, emphasizing the harmony of tones. His most famous painting, "Arrangement in Grey and Black No. 1," is known worldwide simply as "Whistler's Mother."
The film takes viewers to Tate Britain in London, where the first major Whistler retrospective in thirty years is on view, featuring world-famous masterpieces alongside rarely exhibited works.
The film is in English with subtitles in Latvian.
