Film "I Think About a Cat"
At the Sigulda DEVONS Cultural Center on November 4 at 19.00, we invite you to watch the latest film by director Laila Pakalniņa, a documentary fiction film, “I Think About a Cat.”
The film is a cinematic poem written using the light that shone 40 to 50 years ago. It will be a recollection of someone else's memories, based on photographic negatives from 1968-78 found in a trash container.
Looking at the drafts of the unknown photographer, whom we have called Anton, Aunt Emma's son, we will imagine what he felt and thought, and what those he photographed felt and thought. Or more precisely, how we would live if these were our photographs.
The idea for this film was found in a trash can, or more precisely, next to one. A bag left for disposal contained 36 exposed rolls of film. But the images hidden in them did not disappear. We saw them and imagined the film.
Once, in the 1960s, there lived Anton. He had a camera with which he photographed all sorts of things - chickens, relatives, friends, auto races. Anton had a son, Raitis, who also wanted to take photographs. When Anton died, Raitis finally got the camera and also started photographing all sorts of things.
Time passed. But time had not passed. It had been preserved in photographs. We filled in what was missing.
