FOREIGN SKIN

Based on Dace Rukšāne's novel "Russian Skin" • Director - Inga Krasovska

An ironic drama

"Foreign Skin" is a dramatization based on motifs from Dace Rukšāne's popular novel "Russian Skin." At the center of the play are the destinies of two women - mother and daughter - in postwar occupied Liepāja. It is a story about feelings that destroy all preconceptions. About a woman's longing for love, the fulfillment of dreams, and a happy life.

Although both women shape and build their lives side by side, their lives run in parallel. Emīlija, chasing a man's love, is unable to give love to her daughter Meldra. The only thing that unites them is shared secrets and silence. And the scents through which both women subtly experience the world and the era in which they live. Scents fade and change, but memories and feelings remain. How do you love without hurting the person closest to you? How do you understand each other when speaking is forbidden?

The performance was nominated for 1 award at the 2023/2024 "Spēlmaņu nakts" awards: "Actress of the Year" (Inese Kučinska)!
