HARRY TUMAN's lecture "How empires fall: the example of ancient Rome"

November is a time to celebrate, remember and learn.

Celebrating the month of Latvia's birthday, when we especially think about our country's history, values and what makes a strong and sustainable country, NEIBURGS invites you to an educational and exciting evening under the leadership of Harijs Tumans, Doctor of Historical Sciences - the lecture "How Empires Collapse: The Example of Ancient Rome". The story of Rome's greatness, decline and lessons that are still relevant today.

In the professor's lecture, we will go on a journey of more than four centuries to understand how one of the most powerful empires in world history came to its end.

What undermines the foundations of empires in the long run? What economic, political and social processes led to the fall of Rome? Were the authors of the Romans themselves correct in believing that the empire was destroyed by the decay of virtue? Were external wars and internal unrest decisive? Is the project of world empire itself doomed to failure?

In the lecture, we will also look at what legacy Rome left and how many times its idea was revived in the history of Western civilization. And finally - are we living in another version of the "Roman Empire" today?

Rome's experience is both cautionary and instructive. It offers a model through which it is possible to better understand the development of civilizations and their fragility - and perhaps also our own time.

We invite you to an evening that encourages thinking, asking questions and talking - in a beautiful NEIBURGS environment.
