Theater Studio “KURAŽ” is an amateur theater from Stockholm, Sweden, founded in 2019.
For us, theater is a space for living conversation. In our performances, we speak both with one another and with the audience about what concerns us, makes us think, laugh, empathize, and search for answers.
The studio “KURAŽ” brings together participants of different ages, united by a love of theater and a desire to create it together.
The studio’s name also reflects our essence. For us, kuraž means a lifting of the soul, a passion for an idea, and the courage to bring it to life on stage. It is a special creative state in which you yourself believe in what you are doing and are able to inspire the audience with that conviction as well.
The theater’s repertoire includes O. Mikhailov’s “Sisters of the Ganges,” I. Grekova’s “The Widows’ Ship,” S. Hazeldine’s “Ideal Candidates,” D. Nigro’s “Animal Stories,” the studio’s original production “We Are from the Nineties!,” J. Schwartz’s “The Dragon,” the production “Fried Green Tomatoes” based on the novel by F. Flegg, and other productions.
“KURAŽ” is a theater born from the desire to speak about what matters and from the joy of being together on stage.
A psychological drama based on the play by Turkish playwright Tuncer Cücenoğlu
In a remote mountain village, silence is not just a rule. It is a law on which, as the villagers believe, every life depends.
Any louder sound can trigger a deadly avalanche. That is why people here speak in whispers, do not shout, and make no noise. But those who deliberately or accidentally threaten to break the silence face a horrifying punishment - they are buried alive in the ground.
Generation after generation, people learn to live in silence. To obey. Not to ask unnecessary questions. To fear not only the avalanche, but also the breaking of the established order.
For decades, this law remains unshakable.
But one day, a young woman goes into premature labor...
What is more frightening - the avalanche that may come crashing down from the mountains, or the fear that keeps people silent? Where is the line between concern for safety and power based on fear? And what happens when a human life collides with a law that no one dares to question?
“Avalanche” is a psychological drama about fear and freedom, obedience and choice, about the power of rules that become untouchable only because people are used to believing in them.
