Within the framework of the 6th International Theater Festival "Theatrical Baltika".

Performance - "My wife is a liar!"

Theater and educational studio "YUNAK" (Estonia)

Director – Irina Tomingas

Theater and educational studio YUNAK

Theater and educational studio for adults YUNAK was founded in Tallinn in 2019.

For more than six years, the members of the studio - at first in one of the most poetic districts of Tallinn, Kadriorg, but now in the fabulous Old Riga - study the nature of the actor and the phenomenon of creativity, develop attention and imagination, learn to hear music and each other, analyze performances, dance and sing.

The name YUNAK (Junak) is not accidental. The studio was established by sisters Yulia and Olga Grishinas, thus continuing their grandfather's surname. For the YUNAK team, it's not just a name - it's a link between generations and a continuation of the main family tradition: love for creativity and innovation.

The studio offers acting, vocal, speech technique and stage speech, movement, contact improvisation and contemporary dance classes, as well as learning the basics of classical dance and the musical course "Music and Man". On average, participants attend classes 5-6 times a week.

A special place in the work of the studio is the master classes of guests - professional theater pedagogues. Among them are Alexander Dzyuba (VGIK) and Tatiana Trusova, who conducts acting training according to the method of Mikhail Chekhov.

"My wife is a liar" is the first production of the theater and education studio YUNAK.

For us, the theater is a space where we can study ourselves, the other person and the world around us, learn to be more attentive, braver and freer - and create together what has never existed before.

"My wife is a liar"

Comedy in one act

Authors of the play: Maurice Enneken and Margaret Mayo

Chicago, 1920s. William and Cathy Garrison, young, beautiful and accustomed to the joys of life, seem to have everything they need for a happy marriage. But even in the most well-off family, one little lie can turn everything upside down.

William's family idyll is darkened by two circumstances: his wife Cathy's endless tricks and her reluctance to have children. Wanting to win back the love of her beloved husband and save their relationship, Kathy decides on an even bigger deception. But what begins as a seemingly innocent trick of a woman very soon turns into a real whirlwind of unexpected events, adventures and comical situations.

The characters of the show are modern people who want to live beautifully and happily, but sometimes they create problems for themselves literally "out of nothing". And although the action takes place in Chicago almost a hundred years ago, the story of love, jealousy, lies and family tricks is still surprisingly recognizable today.
