Performance - “Draft”

Theatre “Step by Step” (Frankfurt am Main, Germany)

Directed by Jekaterina Barbolina and Darja Šteina

The cultural and educational center “Step by Step” in Frankfurt am Main is a place where creativity becomes part of life.

For more than eight years, the center’s theatre studio has successfully worked on the professional KiJu Theater Frankfurt stage, helping children and young people discover their abilities through the art of theatre.

We work with children and young people aged 4 to 20. Under the guidance of experienced educators, every participant has the opportunity to develop their talents, gain self-confidence, learn to work in a team, and enhance their creative potential.

The theatre studio actively takes part in international festivals. The performances “A Common Miracle,” “Detective of the Stone Age,” “The Cat's House,” and “Buratino” have received high praise from professional juries and won awards at international theatre festivals in Cologne, Riga, Valencia, and Nice.

Since September 2024, the cultural and educational center “Step by Step” has been the organizer of the annual International Children’s and Youth Theatre Festival “Step2gether.” The festival takes place in Frankfurt am Main and brings together young theatre artists from different countries around the world.

“DRAFT”

based on motifs from Joseph Brodsky’s poem “The Procession”

“Draft” is a physical and poetic performance about a person who is searching for their own voice in the many-voiced world.

Figures from world literature and theatre - Don Quixote, Hamlet, and Harlequin - together with allegorical characters - the Thief, the King, and the Merchant - encounter modern reality. They argue, laugh, fall in love, betray, lose, and continue on their way. The poet walks beside them, searching for an answer to the essential question: is it possible to remain yourself when thousands of чужой voices sound all around?
