The exhibition “Cycle of the Year” at the Bolderāja branch library invites visitors to see the beauty of nature through a lifetime of experience

Until 14 November, the Bolderāja branch library is hosting “Cycle of the Year,” an exhibition of paintings and embroideries by Genovefa Anna Lilienšteina, a resident of the Riga Social Care Centre “Stella maris.”

Having lived through more than eight decades, Genovefa Anna Lilienšteina has retained her love for drawing, painting and handicrafts, which she has pursued since her youth. Her works reflect not only the beauty of nature, but also a keen eye for the world.

Genovefa Anna Lilienšteina has lived at the Riga Social Care Centre “Stella maris” since 2022 and continues to be actively creative. She paints landscapes, the moods of the seasons, flowers and maritime themes, giving a special place to ships as well. This theme is no coincidence, as it is closely tied to her family history, since both her father and her brother were once captains.

The artist works mainly with acrylic paints, occasionally also using oil technique, and is involved in various handicrafts. Her creations decorate the shared spaces and residents’ rooms of “Stella maris” in everyday life, adding warmth and colour to the environment.

This year, the centre opened the artist’s solo exhibition “Cycle of the Year,” featuring 12 paintings, one for each month of the year. They are complemented by 12 decorative cushions made by the author. The works depict the transformations of nature throughout the year, from the first flowers in spring to the calm stillness of winter. Each work is like a stopping point in the yearly cycle, while together they form a story about the flow of time, the continuity of nature and a person’s ability to preserve creative joy at any stage of life.

The exhibition “Cycle of the Year” is not only an opportunity to get to know the author’s works, but also a reminder that the desire to create, rejoice and share one’s vision of the world is not bound by age. It shows that creativity can inspire both the artist herself and anyone who pauses before a painting to glimpse the world through her eyes for a moment.
