Exhibition “Bilderingshof-Bilderliņi-Bulduri”

At the Bulduri Exhibition Hall, an exhibition related to the study of the history of the Bulduri area, “Bilderingshof-Bilderliņi-Bulduri,” is on view - the beginning of a permanent display. The Jūrmala Museum invites residents of Jūrmala to take part in creating the new exhibition by sharing their memories of Bulduri.

The “Bilderingshof” and “Bilderliņi” mentioned in the exhibition are only two of the many old names of present-day Bulduri, derived from the German surnames of landowners. The current name Bulduri was introduced in 1920, when the city council decided to “adhere to the original, truly Latvian names of the districts of Riga’s seaside.” On the land of the Bulduri manor, not only the present-day Bulduri area developed, but also the Lielupe, Stirnurags, and Dzintari areas, all of which were once called Bulduri.

The exhibition on view at the Bulduri Exhibition Hall presents both well-known and, until now, unknown events, facts, and images from Bulduri, newly discovered by museum researchers as a result of their work. The exhibition’s authors do not claim to provide a comprehensive historical overview, because the current exhibition is only the beginning of further research into Bulduri, in order to create a permanent display in larger premises. Information is still lacking, and there are many uncertainties and secrets that, like the Bulduri coin hoard on display in the exhibition, have not yet been fully deciphered.

The Jūrmala Museum invites residents of Bulduri, residents of Jūrmala, and other interested people to take part in creating the Bulduri display by sharing their memories, information, and historical objects. Those interested are invited to contact the staff of the Jūrmala Museum Collections Department by phone at 29269190 or 67761914, or by email at krajums@jurmala.lv.

Exhibition authors: Inta Baumane, Līga Strazda, Egita Cironoka, artist - Gundars Gulbis.

The exhibition “Bilderingshof-Bilderliņi-Bulduri” was created in cooperation with the National History Museum of Latvia, the Latvian National Museum of Art, the Ģederts Elias Jelgava History and Art Museum, the Archives of Audio-Visual Documents of the National Archives of Latvia, and VAS “Latvian Railway.” The exhibition uses images from the collections of visual materials of the National Library of Latvia and the archive of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia.
