Discovery program “A Glimpse into JELGAVA PRISON”

Have you ever wanted to find out what life behind prison walls was really like?

We invite you to set off on an exciting discovery adventure in the former Jelgava Prison!

This is a unique opportunity to take a look inside a place that was closed to the public for many years, learn about inmates’ everyday life, and see authentic prison premises with your own eyes.

Accompanied by the program guide, you will go through separate prison buildings and rooms, learning interesting facts about the history of Jelgava Prison, the inmates’ lives, the strict daily routine, and the rules that every inmate had to follow.

What will you learn and see during the program?

• •The first residential block - you will see authentic inmate cells and administrative rooms.
• •Prison everyday life - you will learn how the inmates’ day was organized, what their daily routine, duties, and restrictions were like.
• •The prison yard - you will look into the area that once was part of the inmates’ everyday life.
• •Punishment isolation cell - you will see the rooms where inmates had to stay in especially strict conditions for disciplinary violations.
• •Educational tasks - during the program you will have the chance to test your attention and knowledge.

This is not just a tour - it is a chance to briefly step into an environment where everyday life was defined by strict rules, restrictions, and life behind closed doors.

Children under 14 may attend the program accompanied by an adult.

The visit takes place in an organized group accompanied by the program guide. Please arrive on time and follow the program guide’s instructions.

Important! During the program, only part of the former Jelgava Prison territory and premises is visited.
