Jānis Lūsēns. Sound Fields
On Friday, December 4, at the concert hall “Latvija” - an evening when the rhythm of everyday life stays behind the door and music sounds for the peace of the night.
Jānis Lūsēns’ concert “Sound Fields” is a leisurely musical journey with the composer’s pieces and improvisations that let you listen to the nuances of sound, timbres, calm, and silence.
The concert will feature Jānis Lūsēns’ special instruments - interval piano, celesta, bells, zvongi, and analog synthesizer. The musical space will also be filled by the special sound of the concert hall’s Dāvids Kļaviņš 470i piano. Standing 4.70 meters tall, the piano is one of the concert hall’s unique instruments, allowing an especially wide spectrum of sound to be heard.
The music here is not predetermined - each piece and improvisation is created in the moment and is therefore unique. This is a concert for those who want to listen and let the rush of everyday life fade away for a while in the sounds of music. There is no need to follow a story or wait for familiar melodies - simply let the music sound and carry you away on a wondrous journey of sound.
Jānis Lūsēns is one of Latvia’s most important contemporary composers. His work includes academic music, theater and film music, songs, and musicals. In Jānis Lūsēns’ music, a special significance belongs to the color of sound and the timbre of instruments - subtle nuances of sound create a multilayered sound space, allowing the ordinary to transform into a transcendent sound.
