The Riga Cathedral Girls' Choir TIARA invites you to a special concert of new work premieres, a tribute to Riga on its 825th birthday - HOW DOES RIGA SOUND?
At different times, poets have described and immortalized the essence of our capital, Riga, in many different ways, painting with words vivid, heartfelt, poetic everyday scenes full of life and reflection. Inspired by the poetry of Rasa Bugavičute-Pēce, Alfrēds Krūklis, Māris Melgalvs, Veronika Strēlerte, Jāzeps Osmanis, and Pēteris Jurciņš, composers Kārlis Auzāns, Rihards Dubra, Andris Dzenītis, Edgars Mākens, Uģis Prauliņš, and Andris Sējāns have captured it in a newly created musical fabric. Riga is also celebrated in Latvian folk songs, and drawing inspiration from the rich treasury of folklore materials, new arrangements have been written by composers Andris Sējāns and Juris Vaivods. Meanwhile, songs written earlier by Mārtiņš Brauns, Raimonds Pauls, and Uldis Stabulnieks carry a powerful and evocative message through especially expressive melodies. This is how Riga sounds - through their voices, the Riga Cathedral Girls' Choir TIARA will sing the story of Riga.
The concert is organized by the Riga Cathedral Girls' Choir Association in cooperation with the Riga Cathedral Choir School of the National Secondary School of Arts. The project is supported by the Department of Education, Culture and Sports of the Riga City Municipality.
