The Game of Kings

The performance is based on Stefan Zweig’s “The Royal Game”.

World chess champion Mirko Czentovic travels by passenger steamer to Argentina to claim new victories, since Europe and America have already been conquered.

The steamer’s passengers want to test their strength against the champion and challenge him to a game. When the game is almost lost, a gentleman suddenly appears - a mysterious chess amateur. Two different worlds meet in the game. They play against each other, but the real battle takes place within themselves. For each of them, victory and defeat mean something entirely different. And of course, the story is no longer about chess.
