KINO / Ditas Rietuma's European Film Festival Selection | ROSE

The Thirty Years' War, the 17th century. A taciturn stranger arrives in a German village, claiming to have returned to his native home. He, whose family name is Rose, insists on reclaiming his property. Rose's behavior raises doubts among the locals. The energetic, sharp, and frugal movements of an old soldier, a bullet hanging around his neck, are a reminder of survival and the front line. Soon the relationship between the outsider and the villagers turns into witch hunts, avalanches of prejudice, and a philosophical dispute about what it means to be human.

The film is in German with subtitles in Latvian and English.
