Concert “I Myself Have Strong Words”

The group “Strong Women” from Riga and Liepāja invites you to a folk music concert, “I Myself Have Strong Words,” on 15 November at 3:00 p.m., on the eve of the national holidays, in the permanent exhibition “Procrastination and Creation” of the Latvian National Museum of Literature and Music, at Mārstaļu iela 6, Riga. The concert will feature Latvian folk songs and folksongs from different regions, songs from the time of the Folklore Movement, audience favorites that have become folk songs, and Ukrainian melodies. The concert’s guests are the ensemble “Strong Men”.

The groups “Strong Women” and “Strong Men” are led by ethnomusicologist Igeta Ozoliņa.

The group “Strong Women” was founded in the summer of 2013 at the summer camp of the Music and Art Festival “Bildes”. At first, it functioned as a one-summer project, and regular rehearsals only began in the autumn/winter season of 2015. The Liepāja branch of “Strong Women” began operating in August 2019. “Strong Women” mainly perform folk songs and folksongs from different regions of Latvia. “Strong Women” reveal the songs’ content and message by involving the audience and creating a sense of belonging and togetherness. Naturalness and bringing out the song’s meaning, along with genuine emotion, are the main principles behind the work of “Strong Women”.

Tickets can be purchased in the “Mobilly” app and at biletes.rmm.lv. Ticket availability is limited.
