Concert Performance “People of Riga Dance Through the Centuries”

On November 18, a dazzling concert performance, “People of Riga Dance Through the Centuries,” dedicated to the 825th anniversary of Riga, will take place in the Great Hall of the VEF Culture Palace. The folk dance ensemble “Zelta sietiņš,” together with friends, will perform a program created especially for this occasion - 15 original dance stories in two parts, bringing the centuries of Riga to life on stage.

Part I - “All Around Are Sand Hills, Riga Itself Is in Water”

The first part of the concert will dance through history from Riga’s very beginnings. Through Livonian folklore motifs, we will see on stage the lives of the inhabitants of Riga’s various islands - their work, traditions, and celebrations. The dance will tell a poetic story of the city’s birth, stirring up sand hills in animation, sinking into water, and dancing in battles.

Music by Gatis Gaujenieks.

Part II - “Shine, Riga”

In the second part, audiences will experience Riga’s path of development in the 20th century. The period of Ulmanis and the postwar years will be interpreted in the language of dance, connecting historical events with modern rhythms. In the finale of the program, the stage will sparkle in the splendor of modern-day Riga - dynamic and radiant.

Music by Mārtiņš Miļevskis.

Choreographers of the concert performance: Dace Adviljone, Reinis Rešetins, Lilija Lipore, Edgars Lipors, Līga Indriksone, Diāna Gavare, Edīte Ābeltiņa.
