Chrysanthemum Exhibition at the National Botanical Garden
Autumn is the season of chrysanthemum bloom and splendor! From October 29 to November 15, we invite you to visit the chrysanthemum exhibition in the premises of the National Botanical Garden's Nature Center “Botania.” The exhibition will feature more than 100 chrysanthemum varieties, and the selection will change every day as new varieties continue to bloom.
🌼 The National Botanical Garden’s chrysanthemum collection is the largest in the Baltics. It includes 300 varieties and 7 wild species. Special treasures of the collection are 40 varieties created in Latvia. The story of chrysanthemums in the garden began back in 1956, and since then specialists have evaluated more than 1,000 varieties from around the world, creating a unique collection.
🍂 At the exhibition, you will see an amazing variety of colors, forms, and flowers - from delicate yellow-orange autumn tones to bright red-and-white chrysanthemums, which are especially fitting for November, the time of Latvia’s national holidays.
Chrysanthemums in Japanese culture
The exhibition will also introduce the symbolic meaning of chrysanthemums in Japan. In Japanese culture, the chrysanthemum holds a special place - it has been associated with the imperial family for centuries and is considered one of the country’s symbols. The chrysanthemum symbolizes longevity, wisdom, nobility, and spiritual strength. In Japan, special festivities are held in its honor in autumn, while in art and literature the chrysanthemum embodies elegance, maturity of life, and harmony. At the exhibition, you will have the chance to learn more about these traditions and discover why the chrysanthemum is called the queen of autumn.
