Lāčplēsis Day in Ogre

On November 11, on Lāčplēsis Day, in Ogre, we will honor Latvia’s freedom fighters with a torchlight procession, remembering those who have contributed to our country’s freedom and independence.

At 7: 00 p.m., we invite everyone to join the torchlight procession from the Riflemen Memorial Sign on the bank of the Daugava to the Brothers' Cemetery. Participants in the procession are invited to bring torches and gather from 6:45 p.m. at the Riflemen Memorial Sign on the Daugava promenade.

When the procession reaches Independence Square, a ceremonial memorial moment will take place.

The torchlight procession will end at the Brothers' Cemetery, where fallen soldiers and Latvia’s freedom fighters will be honored with salutes and flowers.

At 5: 30 p.m. in Independence Square and at 7:30 p.m. by the Monumental Latvian Flag (32a Brīvības Street), historian Gunārs Rusiņš from the Ogre History and Art Museum will speak about the significance of Lāčplēsis Day.

As darkness falls, a short film about the people and events that made it possible to live in a free and independent Latvia will be shown on the Ogre Municipal Council building and on the Big Screen in City Square.

On Lāčplēsis Day, the city will be adorned with the flags of the Republic of Latvia, bonfires will burn, and as darkness falls the arched and cable pedestrian bridges over the Ogre River will be lit in red, white, and red.

Drivers are asked to note that traffic restrictions are planned along the route of the procession during the event. Traffic restrictions are planned on a section of Kalna Prospekts from Rīga Street to Bērzu Alley, on a section of Brīvības Street from the Ogre Municipal Council building to Turkalnes Street, and on Turkalnes Street as far as the Brothers' Cemetery.
