Events Dedicated to Lāčplēsis Day
On November 11, Lāčplēsis Day will be marked in Ventspils with commemorative events filled with respect and gratitude, honoring Latvia's freedom fighters and their contribution to our country's independence.
At 12: 00, flowers will be laid at the White Cross and at the grave of the Unknown Soldier in Meža Cemetery. Then from 17:30 to 18:00, a solemn commemorative moment will take place at the memorial stele for the Knights of the Lāčplēsis War Order in Esplanade. Priest Kārlis Irbe will address those present, the musical atmosphere will be created by the Ventspils wind orchestra, and the Young Guards will take their ceremonial oath.
At 18: 00, the song-filled torch procession “River of Light” will set off from Esplanade, symbolically bringing together the people of Ventspils and the city's guests in light, remembrance, and gratitude. This year, the procession will begin in Esplanade, continue along Saules Street, and end at the Great Square.
Everyone is invited to join the procession and bring a torch. The procession will be accompanied by Ventspils singing groups and the Ventspils wind orchestra.
From 18: 30, a musical performance and a Lāčplēsis Day concert with the group “Bekars” will welcome the procession participants at the Great Square. During the event, visitors will have the chance to learn about the activities of the State Border Guard, the 46th Infantry Battalion of the National Guard, and the Young Guard, as well as take part in creating a collective fire pattern from candles. Visitors are invited to bring their own candle so that together we can create a light symbol in memory of Latvia's freedom fighters.
