GORS | LATGALE'S BIRTHDAY CARDS. Concert by Ilona Rupaine and Juris Vaivods

Composers Ilona Rupaine and Juris Vaivods are contemporaries and this year’s jubilee celebrants, but they are united by more than just the numbers of the year. Both composers are from Latgale, both have sung in choirs, and both write extensively for choir. In the end, they are also both shaping the musical content of two important Latvian cultural institutions, the Daile Theatre and the GORS Latgale Embassy. The concert program “Latgale’s Birthday Cards,” created thanks to the initiative of the State Academic Choir “Latvija” and conductor Māris Sirmais, will feature choral music by both composers, including arrangements of Latgalian folk songs, complemented by instrumental interludes performed by students of the MIKC Latgale Music and Art Secondary School.
