LATVIAN POSTCARDS | Aleksandra Špicberga, Rihards Plešanovs

A multi-layered program devoted to Latvian music, “Latvian Postcards,” is presented during Latvia’s national holidays by singer Aleksandra ŠPICBERGA and pianist Rihards PLEŠANOVS.

The concert performance “Latvian Postcards” was created as a personal dialogue between the musicians and Latvian music. Latvian works from different generations and genres, original interpretations, an unusual instrumental lineup, and lighting scenography together create a contemporary concert experience.

In Rihards Plešanovs’ interpretation, the piano will feature melodies by Emīls Dārziņš, as well as examples of piano music by Imants Zemzars and Gundars Pone. Together with Aleksandra Špicberga, a song cycle by Pēteris Plakidis will be performed. The two musicians will also present solo songs by Uldis Stabulnieks.

Alongside works of academic and contemporary music, the program will also include melodies familiar to listeners in a new, unusual interpretation with the freedom of improvisation and jazz moods. During the concert, Aleksandra and Rihards will be joined by Hammond organ virtuoso Atis Andersons and percussionist Ernests Mediņš.

The musicians will share the joy of interplay and improvisation, performing arrangements of Latvian folk songs, as well as well-known melodies by Raimonds Pauls, Imants Kalniņš, and other composers.
