Legend Night at the Rezekne Green Synagogue

We invite you to experience city legends in poetry, prose, and song at the Rezekne Green Synagogue!

On Saturday, October 31, the Rezekne Green Synagogue, as a culturally important venue for the region, will join the event “Legend Night” organized by the Latvian Castles and Manors Association and offer the chance to experience legends throughout the day, from 11:00 to 19:00.

The event title, “City Legends in Poetry, Prose, and Song,” is no coincidence, because the synagogue welcomes everyone who enjoys listening to contemporary yet at the same time moving and emotional poetry, who wants to learn new and sometimes intriguing facts about their hometown, or simply wants to enjoy the sounds of popular romances.

Legend Night at the Rezekne Green Synagogue will begin at 13:00 with the poetry hour “Legends About ...”. Poems will be read by poets from Rezekne city and district: Aija Mikele, Līvija Liepdruviete, Maruta Avramčenko, Artūrs Dilevka, and Valdis Stepiņš.

At 15: 00, the baton will be taken over by historian Vladislavs Malahovskis from the Latgale Culture and History Museum, who will reveal the legends of Rezekne in the lecture-conversation “A Lost City: Historical Journeys Along the Streets of Rezekne.”

The program will conclude at 17:00 with the concert “From the History of Romances.” Legendary romances will be performed by Marina Piterāne (Ludza District). The event will be in Russian.

Admission to the events is free. Donations are welcome!

Before the events (from 11: 00) and during the breaks, visitors will have the opportunity to tour the Green Synagogue, learn about its history, see the exhibition of sacred objects, and view the synagogue’s unique material treasures, the genizah and the bread oven.
