Lecture: Houseplant Care in Autumn and Winter
Are your houseplants ready for winter?
As autumn sets in, some houseplants suddenly start dropping leaves, turning yellow, getting sick, or stopping growth. As the seasons change, how can we understand a plant's needs and adapt the care of our green favorites to the dark months so they keep thriving and healthy and welcome spring in full bloom?
We invite you to the lecture “Houseplant Care in Autumn and Winter,” where Ingūna Gudrupa, head of the Tropical, Subtropical and Succulent Collection at the University of Latvia Botanical Garden, will share her experience. She cares for more than 1,500 exotic plants every day. Ingūna is a former editor of the magazine “Dārza Pasaule,” the author of “Telpaugu Avīze,” and the scientific editor of the book “Arī man ir savs telpaugs,” and she has also led the University of Latvia continuing education course “Houseplant Care.”
The lecture will focus on the three most important factors affecting plant well-being: light, humidity, and temperature, and will also provide practical advice on when and how often to fertilize plants, how to choose the most suitable pots, and how to use different substrates. The lecture will take place in a small group, so everyone will have a chance to ask questions at the end.
