The Tales of Father of the Lindens. A Performance for Children

There lives in Liepāja Father of the Lindens. No one has ever met him face to face, yet it is known that he is an approximately 400-year-old man who lives somewhere unknown and knows every streetlamp, every cobblestone, every cornice in the city. In Liepāja, Father of the Lindens sees what others do not notice in their daily rush they simply pass by. Not being content with that, Father of the Lindens often writes down his observations, and thus the tales of Father of the Lindens are born. The author, however, has such a vivid imagination that from time to time, sometimes by accident and sometimes on purpose, he mixes reality with fiction.

For the 10th anniversary of “Lielais dzintars,” set designer, writer and Liepāja native Varis Siliņš has taken a few of the tales of Father of the Lindens and brought them together in a musical performance for families, where we will meet a creature called Svepšķis, the Metalworker’s Cow will also arrive, and everything will be crowned by the story of the Chimney in Love. By the way, during the performance we will also invite the audience to help add to the tales.

The storytellers will be played by actors Maija Romaško-Burkevica and Kaspars Gods. Sound effects and a path of linden leaves will be woven into the music by the experienced composer Jēkabs Nīmanis, and his ideas will be brought to life by cellist Krišjānis Gaiķis, English horn player Āris Burkins and guitarist Harijs Roziņš. Of course, Father of the Lindens himself will also be warmly welcomed.

With “The Tales of Father of the Lindens,” we invite you to turn your gaze to the more unusual places of our beloved city and meet its extraordinary beings. And the best way to do that is with your family, so that after the performance you can go out into the streets of Liepāja and feel even closer to the city!
