Exhibition of Reproductions of Paintings by the Lithuanian Artist, Composer, and Thinker Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, “Ciurlionis - Columbus of the New Spiritual Continent”

From September 4 to November 6, an exhibition of reproductions of paintings by the outstanding Lithuanian artist, composer, and thinker Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, “Ciurlionis - Columbus of the New Spiritual Continent,” is on view at the Grīva Cultural Space.

At the exhibition, visitors can see reproductions of M. K. Čiurlionis’s works, prepared by the Daugavpils Roerich Society, or the Daugavpils group of the Latvian branch of the International Roerich Centre. The original works are kept at the Lithuanian National Museum of Art in Kaunas, which houses the world’s largest collection of the artist’s works.

Residents of Daugavpils and visitors to the city have the opportunity to step into Čiurlionis’s creative world and discover his significant contribution to Lithuanian and world culture. His diverse legacy continues to inspire and amaze with its depth, originality, and vision of the spiritual world.

M. K. Čiurlionis has a special place in the world of art. In his work, music and painting merge into a single artistic language, revealing a deep connection between the visible and the audible. In Čiurlionis’s art, the boundaries between these worlds become almost imperceptible.

The musical terms found in the titles of many paintings reveal Čiurlionis’s efforts to see in visual form what is usually heard, and to feel in music what is usually seen. His paintings reveal the vastness of nature and the cosmos, the rhythm of the sea, and the atmosphere of ancient legends, inviting the viewer not only to observe, but also to think and imagine. It is no coincidence that the French writer Romain Rolland described Čiurlionis’s work as “the discovery of a new spiritual continent” - this idea became the inspiration for the exhibition title.

We invite everyone to get acquainted with the artistic world of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, where colors sound, music becomes visible, and imagination opens the way to new discoveries.
