Līga Spunde Solo Exhibition "Mind, Heart"
By turning the exhibition space into a "heart gym," Līga Spunde uses humor, sculpture, graphics, and moving images to reflect on emotional apathy and confusion, prompting us to think about how the cult of efficiency and productivity and the overload of information increasingly make it harder to access our own feelings.
Moving through the exhibition spaces - the associative "reception," "practice," and "rest" zones - visitors encounter various everyday clashes between emotion and rationality, heart and mind. Līga Spunde is convinced that our ability to care for others and ourselves and to do good has not disappeared, but is rather tired and partly diminished. As it turns out, even empathy sometimes needs a workout.
In her works, the artist explores the fragile boundaries between perception and reality, usually expressing them through digital graphics, video, and sculpture. Līga Spunde’s diploma work "Hike" was recognized as one of the three best new projects in Europe, and since then her works have been exhibited internationally.
The exhibition was created in collaboration with the experimental art space "1646" in The Hague.
