Bride Hunters

The first period of independent Latvia meant not only a booming economy and competitiveness on a European scale, it also meant a new standard in human relationships and social life - in Riga, the luxurious apartments of the quiet city center were finally inhabited not only by Baltic Germans, but also by wealthy Latvian businessmen, who organized lavish balls for their children of marriageable age. Every Latvian young man longed to get into them and choose a lifelong love who had beauty, virtue, and a substantial dowry. But Anšlavs Eglītis looked at the bride hunters with both humor and a touch of self-irony, because, of course, he himself was such a Latvian young man.
