BLACK SWAN

With this production, we will open the JRT New Hall, a unique stage that did not exist in the old Lāčplēša Street theater. This is a completely new playing space that offers unprecedented technical possibilities.
The theory of the "black swan" is a scientific metaphor for an event that comes absolutely unexpectedly, unpredictably, and completely changes the existing situation. This term is used in economics, military jargon, and politics. Historically, the term arose from the assumption that black swans did not exist in nature. Until one fine day a representative of this species was discovered in Australia.
In the case of our production, the "black swan" metaphor refers both to Russian classical ballet, the current political context, and to some of the characters in Dostoevsky's novel "The Idiot" (which is the basis for the dramatization of the production).
This paraphrase, written so long ago, about Mary Magdalene and Jesus Christ, who has risen from the dead, makes us look more carefully in today's context and reread the novel more closely, what exactly did the author want to tell us? And have we perhaps misunderstood something or lingered too long in our illusions?
The performance takes place at Lāčplēša Street 25, in the New Hall.
