The production is based on Noël Coward’s famous play “Blithe Spirit” - a vivid comedy in which reality blends with mysticism in a singular way.

“Blithe Spirit” is Noël Coward’s best-known and most successful play. Its 1941 premiere ran for 1,997 performances and set a national record, which was later surpassed only by Agatha Christie’s “The Mousetrap”.

The production combines the atmosphere of a high-society comedy with elements of mysticism, creating a vivid and captivating theatrical performance.

One day, the successful writer Charles Condomine decides to hold a small séance at his home in order to observe a medium at work and describe it in his new novel. The medium, Madame Arcati, accidentally summons the ghost of Charles’s first dead wife, Elvira, who immediately begins to clash with both her former husband and his new wife.

The spirit turns out to be uncontrollable - everything in the lives of all the characters is turned upside down. The unfortunate husband tries to get rid of the “ghost of love,” but it turns out to be far from easy.

Why? Perhaps because it is hard to say goodbye to love, and the shadows of our passions accompany us throughout our lives? Or is it simply impossible to get along with ex-wives (whether they are ghosts or not)?

Avtandil Varsimašvili is one of the most well-known and distinctive contemporary Georgian theatre directors, a master of psychological tension and subtle dramaturgy. His productions are distinguished by a deep revelation of human character, an impeccable sense of atmosphere, and the ability to turn inner conflicts into gripping stage action.
