Musical Brunch with Aigars Raumanis and Herta Hansena

OPERA AND VARIATIONS

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's The Magic Flute, Richard Wagner's Tristan and Isolde, Antonín Dvořák's Rusalka, Georges Bizet's Carmen - watching these operas would take more than fifteen hours, but the laureates of the Grand Music Award, the outstanding chamber musician and pianist Herta Hansena and the young, energetic saxophonist Aigars Raumanis, offer a unique opportunity - in masterful arrangements and virtuosic variations, in a single concert program, to hear the most beautiful operatic arias and the best-known themes from world-famous stage works. The orchestral sound of the piano and the timbre of the saxophone, which resembles the beautiful voice of an opera soloist, will fill Vincenzo Bellini's soprano prayer Casta diva and Antonín Dvořák's heartfelt aria from Rusalka with new colors. Composers have long created paraphrases and variations on the works of their colleagues. Ludwig van Beethoven was very fond of Mozart's The Magic Flute, and he created Seven Variations on its theme. The Polish pianist and composer Frédéric Chopin listened to Rossini's operas and played with their thematic material. Meanwhile, the flute virtuosos from France, Paul Taffanel and François Borne, weave themes from operas by Carl Maria von Weber and Georges Bizet into technically challenging yet vitality- and joy-filled fantasies. A wonderfully colorful journey through the vast world of opera together with saxophone and piano!
