Next Frame. Animated Film and Creative Workshop with Elīna Brasliņa
On 8 November at 11.00, the third and final event in the “Next Frame” series will take place at the Sigulda DEVONS Culture Centre, inviting children, young people, and families to discover the world of animation not only as viewers, but also as explorers of its diversity. To conclude the series, audiences will have the chance to watch Edmunds Jansons’s latest animated film, “The Lucky Ones.” The Lucky Ones is a story about a sister and brother who dare to explore the secrets of the Venezuelan jungle in order to save a creature of an unseen species, Fluffy.
Before the screening, there will be a meeting and conversation with the film’s artist, Elīna Brasliņa, to find out what the artist’s role is and what inspires the creation of the characters and the world they live in in an animated film.
After the screening, Elīna will explore with the event participants in a creative workshop what kind of animals live in the Venezuelan jungle. Elīna is widely known as a book illustrator and animated film artist. With her quick drawing skills and exceptional sense of color and form, Elīna Brasliņa is able to illustrate the most complex stories and create beloved characters. So far, she has illustrated more than twenty books. For the comic book “Talking Dogs” and the picture book “Shall We Draw a Story?”, she received the national book art competition “Golden Apple” award in 2019, and in 2025 she was a laureate of the International Jānis Baltvilks Prize.
The workshop will be suitable for children and young people of different ages, fostering imagination, cooperation, and interest in the animation creation process.
