Newborn Care in the First Days After Birth. Lecture by Certified Pediatric Nurse Elita Svareniece ONLINE
A baby’s arrival into the world is one of the most beautiful and at the same time most exciting moments in a new family. But along with this moment come hundreds of questions: How do you properly care for a newborn? Is everything okay with my baby? How do I understand what is normal and what requires attention? To help new parents feel safe and confident, Māmiņu Klubs invites you to an online lecture, where over the course of two hours certified pediatric nurse, long-time childbirth course instructor, and support person for expectant parents Elita Svareniece will help explain:
- •How newborn care takes place in the maternity ward and how it differs from care at home; how to care for a newborn baby step by step
- •How a newborn’s condition and health are assessed, including by the Apgar scale, and what it really means;
- •What a healthy newborn looks like, and which physiological phenomena are completely normal at this age;
- •Which vaccinations are given in the maternity ward and why they are important;
- •How to properly hold, lift, dress, and change a baby’s diaper (the basics of handling);
- •How to care for a baby’s hygiene in the first month of life;
- •How to understand when it is necessary to seek help from a doctor or specialist, and the most common problems.
