From eyelet to masterpiece
On August 8, 2026, at 11:30 a.m., the exhibition "From a loop to a masterpiece" will be opened in the exhibition halls of the Madona Regional History and Art Museum, which will remind you of the traditions of crocheting in Latvia, their diversity and importance in preserving the intangible cultural heritage.
The Crochet Championship is taking place in the Biksere manor for the sixth year, where needlewomen from different parts of Latvia meet and share their experiences, representing both the nation's applied art studios and individual masters. As the years go by, there are fewer and fewer people who know and share crochet skills. As a result, the knowledge, experience and stories accumulated over generations, intertwined in threads and carefully formed loops, are also gradually disappearing. In order to preserve and popularize the traditions of crocheting, the idea arose to hold the Crocheting Championship at the Biksere manor and create thematic exhibitions. This is the second exhibition in the museum dedicated to the masterpieces of the participants of the championship.
Bags, hats, handkerchiefs and other carefully made masterpieces will be on display at the exhibition. Each creation proves high craftsmanship, the patience of needlewomen and the diverse creative possibilities of crocheting. The exhibition will be on display in the foyer of the museum's Exhibition Hall from August 8 to October 11, 2026
free of charge.
Anyone interested is invited to visit the exhibition and discover the richness of crocheting traditions.
